David asked I need advice on buying a knife?
I want to buy a knife that is very strong and durable. I want to use it for protection and camping. It needs to be very cheap but nice quality.
And got the following answer:
1. Old timer (Shrade brand).http://www.knivesplus.com/OLD-TIMER-KNIVES.HTML It's a small three blade knife. My only problem is that it wont stay in my pockets. But it holds a great edge. Easy to sharpen. It dosent have blade locks but they're really not needed with this knife. Not a fighting knife but if your into whittling or carving its the knife to have. 2. Buck 119 fixed blade, 10 inch overall length, 6 inch blade length.http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...uck+119+review Awsome knife, comes out the box with a wicked sharp edge. Very easy to sharpen. I have shaved with it just because I could. I highly recomend this knife. Comes with a very well made black nylon belt sheath. Great for skinning animals, general outdoor use. And if you ever need it in a tight situation im sure it'll mess somebody up. Love this knife. 3. Leatherman skeletool/skeletool CX. http://www.leatherman.com/multi-tool...skeletool.aspx Pretty basic tools on it, pliers, wire cutters, two flathead screw drivers, two philips head screwdrivers (interchangable) bottle opener (first thing I used on it). The blades are different between the regular and the CX version. The regular is just a regular straight blade, The CX is serrated at the back of the blade. I usually hate knives with half serrated and half straight blades, But this one dosent play, it'll cut anything you want. Also the CX version is black, very cool looking knives. (all leatherman knives have good blades that sharpen pretty well.) Great for everyday use. Older knives that I like. My favorite knife ever. GERBER 650.http://www.google.com/products?sourc...ed=0CCcQrQQwBA Three inch blade about 6/7 inches overall. Mine was pretty old when I got it. So im not sure how good the blade is out the box. Mine had a good blade for a while. It was the only knife I used for years untill I finally wore it out. The blade surly isint the best in the world, but the way the knife was made is the best. The blade lock is a spine lock, thats has never failed. The damn knife is indestructable. I once hammered the blade into a wood log. I had to snatch it back and forth to get it out, diddent hurt it a bit. When the blade was shut, it was shut it diddent come open in your pocket. But barely twitch your wrist it will pop out like a switch blade. Most knives that do that is because the blade is loose. Not the gerber, blade never wobbles it very secure. You can close it just as quick by hitting the blade lock on the spine. (watch your fingers). Smith and Wesson Oasis (blade length-3 inches, over all length 7 1/2 inches) Folding blade with in-handle side blade lock. Don't hold an edge for shit, I really have never been able to get a sharp edge on there. The blade will often come loose and have to be retightend. But it looks cool as hell, And for a basic self defense weapon it should work nicely. http://www.amazon.com/Smith-Wesson-S.../dp/B001608OK6 Bahrs knife guide. More can be found on www.shadowrx.com
