If you install it in the car and connect to the battery terminals, you WILL get around 13.8 volts while the car is running. Sometimes as much as 14.4 or so, sometimes less than 13.8. When the car is off it will be perhaps as low as 12 volts under load. You will not get the rig's full spec'd transmit power then. Yaesu only guarantees that the radio will meet its specs at the specified supply voltage of 13.8V. But the lower voltage will not damage the radio. Nor will the slightly higher voltage sometimes seen at the battery terminals.
