g.karla15 asked What is the difference between a rotary switch deck on pole?
I'm looking at some rotary switches for sale and I can filter by number of position for deck, number of decks and and poles per deck. But what's the difference between number of decks and number of poles per deck? What do they do?
And got the following answer:
I think you are asking the wrong question in the detail I am reaching to the edges of my experience, but I believe this is correct number of position for deck - is the number of click stops on the deck. number of decks - is the stack of decks/mountings of connections poles per deck - is the number of common connections Compare to a DPDT switch which is like 1 deck, 2 positions, 2 poles. So a rotary switch might have two input or common connections on each deck, and 8 outputs, 4 for each common. The switch would have 4 click stops, and 10 terminals around the edge. If there were 3 decks, then there would be a total of 30 terminals sticking out in 3 layers and the switch might be described as 6P4T (paralleling DPDT) there being 6 independent paths through the switch to 4 outputs each.
