For a competition i need to create a "non-electrical" timer to measure intervals in the range of 10 to 300 seconds. I have a few ideas, but i'm running into problems with the ideas, mainly how consistent they are. Does anybody have any ideas for this?

There is the sand timer or hourglass, and some sort of water timer based on drips or restricted flow. A clockwork timer (spring driven with an escapement to regulate it) sounds a bit difficult. There are also ones based on falling weights, or springs, which are regulated by a rotating fan connected to the shaft that is turned by the weight or spring. A pneumatic timer that may be easy to construct is a piston in a cylinder, falling down the cylinder. A small air bleed hole controls the rate of descent. There are also ones driven by chemicals or heat, as in fuse timers.
