Chicken asked How does an automatic weapon work?
Any automatic gun. Please explain clearly as i do not know much about guns
And got the following answer:
That depends on which auto weapon you are talking about there are weapons that reload using a return piston which recocks ejects the old and loads new from a spring loaded magazine, powering the action from the re cycled expanding gasses behind the bullet, eg the kalashnikov, the self loading rifle (S.L.R.) The A.R.15, M16,etc... The Kalashnikov and the m16 series do also have an auto capability if the saftey switch is set to its set to auto, The AR 15 and the British S.L.R. do not have this feature, hence only safe or semi auto therefore saving ammunition . Others use the rotary reloading mechanism eg the American Ingram, or the Israeli Uzi this system allows a very very high cyclic fire rate.( The uzi can fire as many as 600 rounds per min if you could load it with 600 bullets that is.) The Uzi has a 50 bullet magazine in it's .22 version . Then there are tube fed weapons such as the American Gatling gun this weapon is loaded in its mounted role by a tube containing bullets that are fed into the weapon by the use of compressed air that forces the bullet through the tube and into the firing chamber of the weapon. this weapon is multi barreled and uses the rotary barrel system this can be battery powered or compressed air powered To go into more detail i would need far more time than i have, suggest see links attached therefore. I hope that answers your question..... Abe
