Jayson asked What would happen if I install Graphics card that requires 500W power supply when my PC has 300W?
I have a PC that has max power supply of 300W and I wanted to buy a really nice video card but it requires 500W power supply. Will it work anyways? Will it hurt my PC? Is there a way to increase PC power supply? Any advice on what video card I could buy that only requires 300W but works really well on PC gaming?
And got the following answer:
You must replace power supply with a 500 watt or greater supply. If you do not the supply will be overloaded and likely burn itself out and / or undervoltage and burn out mother board and other components. After the mother board, hard drives, and power supply have burned out, there will be no more damage - only because there is nothing left to burn out. Beef up power supply if you intend to add a video card. It is an absolute requriement.
