mhmhv1 asked Can I Use My Old Wireless Router With A Newer Card?
The router is at least 5 years old. its a D-Link 614+ not sure what it is as far as Wireless a/b/g etc i have a wireless card that i bought with the router obviously, but i just bought a new computer and im giving this one to my mom. we cant have lan cables running through the house so shes keeping the card. if i went out and bought a linksys or another dlink card would it work with that router?
And got the following answer:
Most likely it will since most newer cards support B/G. I would see no problem at all. Model: DI-614+ Standards: IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.3 Range: Indoors: up to 328 feet; outdoors: up to 1,312 feet Speed: With automatic fallback: 22 Mbps, 11 Mbps, 5.5 Mbps, 2 Mbps, 1 Mbps LED indicators: Power, WAN, Local Network (10/100), WLAN (Wireless Connection) Frequency: 2.4 GHz to 2.462 GHz Power: External Power Supply DC 5V, 2.4A System requirements: Windows or Mac OS In the box: Information not available Width: 6.5 inches Height: 1.375 inches Depth: 9.25 inches Warranty, parts: 2 year Warranty, labor: 3 year As you can see, your router will support 802.11(B) and not (G) so if you bought a card that supports B/G you'll be fine.
