Fionn McKool asked how can I add a switch to control a ceiling fan/light which currently has no switch?
I have a ceiling fan/light with no wall switch, installed by previous owners. Other lights and outlets are also on this circuit. Two wires go in and two out of the octagon box. I want a switch that will control only this fixture.
And got the following answer:
If you have only 2 wires in and 2 out of the ceiling box, you cannot install a separate wall switch without cutting sheetrock to install additional wiring. Not worth it, IMHO. I'd say use pull chains with decorative pulls on the fan/light. Good idea to ground the fan/light safety ground directly to the octagon box. Use a small screw (often green in color) to attach it to one of the threaded holes in the octagon box.
