Georgiaboyfish asked How do I hook up ceiling fan different wall switch for light and fan that has remote control?
had prior fan wired for different wall switch(one switch light, one switch fan....bought new fan and guy installed with light & fan on one switch. another switch none functionally. need to fix
And got the following answer:
Turn on fan. Go to fuse(breaker) box and turn off the breaker to that room. When you go back to room the fan should be off. Climb ladder to fan and remove screws(usually 4) that are right up against ceiling on the canopy. The canopy should then fall down on top of the fan exposing the wires inside. Identify the wires coming from the fan should be green, white, black, and blue(or red). Now identify the wires coming from the house. They should be green(or bare copper), white, black, and red. The green(or bare copper), and white wires should be correct already, so don't mess with them. Unhook the black and red(or blue) wires. Now hook the black from the fan to the black from the house. Then hook the red(or blue) from the fan to the red(or blue or maybe another black) from the house. Get down, turn off switches and go turn the breaker back on. Come back and test it to make sure it is right. Then go back to breaker, turn it off and reinstall the canopy. Then turn the breaker back on when you are done.
