Leeeee asked Is it possible to connect a switch to a typical wireless router in order to enable more lan ports?
I need to add a few more wireless ports to my sky wireless router, would it simply be ok to connect a bog standard switch to it, or would this cause problems? Thanks x
And got the following answer:
You mean ethernet ports right not wireless ones, wireless cant be added they are already there and there are hundreds of possible wireless connections to your router. If you mean additional ethernet ports then yes, but i would suggest a simple ethernet hub over a bona-fide switch. reason being a hub wont be detected by the router its just a device to add ports, a switch manages connections and the router might pick up the fact its there. And the sky agreement says you are not allowed to add any other network hardware to the router or you are breach of your customer agreement with them, a hub doesnt matter as they wont ever know, you can add as many as you like daisy chained together.
