Lindsay asked I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and it will not start when I disconnect the power supply. Any ideas?
The battery reads 100% full charge, but when I disconnect the power supply, the system cuts out - as if the battery is fully charged but not usable by the system. The amber charging light is on constantly when the power supply is connected and the system seems to run fine with it connected. The moment I pull it off, the system cuts out. Any ideas?
And got the following answer:
Dell laptops are notorius for problems with batteries and the power adapter. Specifically, because they put a chip in the power adapter to communicate with the laptops battery. One thing you can try is to take out the battery and make sure the contacts are clean (use a brush tip vacuum to clean it) I would also contact Dell about this as it is a known issue (it may just be a dead battery)
