I had a bad experience with a UV cold cathode light kit I bought from CompUSA. Installed it, powered on the system and then switched on the lights and my system powered off. It looks like it was a short that caused the problem and it ended up frying my system hard drive in the processes. As a result I'm hesitant to try again, but I would really like to add a green cold cathode light to my case to compliment the blue LEDs in the fans. I have an Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W power supply so I should have more than enough power for my system. Was my experience just a fluke? What has been your experience with cold cathode lights and do you recommend a certain brand?
And got the following answer:
I personally like to mod my system also and i've never had the problem where the UV cold cathode light takes out your whole system along with it. But i'd probably say it was a fluke, maybe the wires weren't right, always double, triple check when your installing it. It might also be helpful if you bought ones with the wires exposed to sorta cover them (ones i bought had wires exposed ontop of my video card so i put some plastic covering over them.
