buddy asked how to tell if the power supply on my computer?
I have a s7600n hp mini computer. I think the power supply is faulty. The red light comes on in the back, but the fan doesn't run. What is the best way to check this problem. It wont come on.
And got the following answer:
-Unplug all external components from the computer. ie: keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc. -Plug computer tower into another outlet in the house that you know works. -Make sure the 110/220 switch at the back is set to 110v if you're in North America. It's unlikely that it's switched, but it's possible. -If the system does come back on, it may be the outset or surge protector/UPS that you're using. Add external components one at a time to see if you're over-using the power supply. A basic 330w power supply can't handle high end video cards and tons of extra components. -If the system doesn't come on, check to see if any of the lights come on; or any of the fans. Usually when the fan doesn't come on, the system doesn't boot and nothing else is plugged into the computer; the power supply is toast and it's time for a new one. New power supplies aren't that hard to install, and they're fairly cheap unless you get some monster 1000w unit. 400-650w is plenty good for most non-hardcore-gamer systems out there.
