Ando A asked What is the recommended power supply for the 256MB AGP Sapphire HD 2400 PRO video card?
I think my computer (HP Pavillion a420a) has a 250 watt power suply but not sure what this video card would require. Ty for any answers 🙂
And got the following answer:
The manufacturer's stated recommendation may be 270W but they typically publish numbers higher than what you're likely to really need (Since they don't know what other power-hungry components a potential buyer has inside their computer case, they pick a number that's safe even for people running multiple hard drives, optical drives, extra case fans etc) The little Radeon HD 2400 Pro doesn't use much power at all- it draws a maximum of 15W under load so you're fine with a 250W power supply. Its not a card for newer games though- it's a good buy for a home theater PC or very casual gaming (The Sims, etc). The MOST demanding game it could handle is probably WoW. For serious gaming wih an AGP motherboard, you need a Radeon 2600XT, 3650 or 3850 (best AGP card on the market)- all of which require a psu upgrade.
