I'm looking to design a circuit that is capable of counting down the seconds by clicking an input once. One click will set the clock to 30 seconds and count down from there. I've taken an AP Digital Electronics course, so I understand the basics of synchronous/asynchronous timers, how to configure them for counting up and down and how to trigger a preset of set values or clear. The difficult part about this circuit is finding a way to ADD time instead of triggering a preset. Are there an unique components or circuit designs that could enable me to make this behave like a microwave (the +1 minute button) timer? Also - I'm exploring the option of making tis a pocket-sized device (after prototyping and such). Is surface-mounting something I can do on my own?
