My wife uses a breathing machine at night for apnea. She has used it so long that she can't sleep well without it. We live in the country and sometimes when a storm knocks out the power, we have to stay up half the night before it is restored. I was thinking about when it happens, I could take the car battery out and connect a power converter to it and plug in her 110 operated breathing machine. It runs on 110volts with a 5 amp draw because it not only runs a fan, but also a heater to keep the water warm that it uses to moisturize the air going to the face mask. What size converter will I need. Thank you!!

It is a simple conversion equation...you need a 600 watt min for just the cpap portion. With out the amp. draw for the heater part; is is impossible to quess. Look on the owners manual for the total draw in the specs. A suggeston, if you are going to pull the battery, buy an invertor, and/or run the car so as to not exhaust the car battery; why not just purchase a gas powered genertor. I bought a 800w for 80 bucks via Pacific outlets. Is your wife a part of a cpap community? There are more answers there, i use cpaptalk.com
