car asked Lennox heater goes through start cycle like it is turning on, but then shuts off. Will do this over and over.?
Eventually shuts off and wont come on at all. Diagnostic lights don't seem to indicate a problem. Had Primary Limit switch replaced 4 years ago. (Heater just stopped working). Bad again? Model G24M. Unit is 8 years old. Has no pilot. Ignitor lights fine, goes off when fan goes off. Sometimes burners even ignite, then go off a few seconds later.
And got the following answer:
If you do have a pilot as Darrel suggested it should not even go through the cycle as it should not attempt to light. My Gibson had the same problem. Fault indicated flame sensor bad but it was actually the ignitor. These wear out. 5 yr. seems to be about average. Watch to see if it does light. You may have to take off a cover to do so. You will probably have to hold down the interlock switch that the cover would normally. If it lights and then goes off after a few seconds it indicates the flame sensor. Often just cleaning this with a scotch brite bad or fine emery cloth will fix it.
