computerguy211 asked will my psu have enough power for a gpu?
my psu would be hipro hp-d3057f3r and i want to upgrade my gpu into a gt 240 ddr3 its a 300-watt psu and the gpu need at least a Minimum of a 300 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amp) what does the +12 volt mean
And got the following answer:
I wouldn't buy that power supply, for about the same price you can get something considerably better and more powerful that will easily power that card. The hipro is an ATX power supply, so any ATX psu (power supply unit) will work in your system. It doesn't have to be one that is "HP Compatible". Check the reviews and specs for the hipro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817174026 to a Corsair 400W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008&Tpk=17-139-008 The +12V rail powers (among other things) the graphics card. They recommend at least 18 amps on the +12V rail to make sure that the psu has sufficient power for your system and the card. It's desirable to have headroom here (more power than not enough) to allow for any additional upgrades or peripherals that you might add down the road.
