Jason Lake asked How do I grow raspberries with a grow light?
Me and my family sell grow lights. My dad saying that while I know my stuff about the lights, I wouldn't have a clue how to grow something like raspberries inside with a grow light. Well it turns out that he's right, I don't have a clue. But I want to shut him up by doing it anyway. So - how do I use a grow light (any one - we have/can get them all) to grow raspberries in a dark room???
And got the following answer:
Actually, growing raspberries indoor or in a hydroponic system is possible. It is important to know that growing raspberries is for advanced hydroponics users. The nutrients intake is also critical for a successful harvest. The growing medium to use would be a mix of 50/50 coco coir and hydroton. The pH must remain between 5.8 and 6.5, and the nutrients solution below 1400 ppm. You can use CFL's or a small 250W or 400W HPS bulb, which should run 10 hours per day during the fruiting cycle. Try to maintain the temperature at 74 degrees F, at most 78 to keep it optimal. In terms of nutrition, never feed when the grow light is on, and ideally set your timers and equipments to feed every 6 hours during that time. It is capital to let the water drip and to not re-use the same solution to keep the nutrients level the same. When growing indoor, you will be more successful with non-thorny varieties of raspberries. Hope this helps! The Hydroshop.ca Support Team
