Rebecca Brown asked How can I take better pictures of myself?
When I take pictures with my phone they turn out really pretty. But I can barely ever get a good pictures with my digital camera. Any tips? It's not the quality, I look unattractive with my camera.
And got the following answer:
Put the camera on a flat level surface or use a tripod. Use the camera's self timer to trigger the exposure. Make sure you are a good distance from the camera - use the camera's zoom lens to frame the shot - you may need someone to help you, or to stand in your place while you set it up. Try to avoid direct on camera flash, or direct sunshine. Use natural light if possible - a shady spot on a sunny day, or by a window. If you must use a flash use a diffuser, or bounce the flash off a nearby surface - like a wall. Or even better use an off camera flash, with a diffuser. The unattractiveness is caused by being too close with a wide angle lens, it causes distortion that makes eyes and foreheads bulge, big noses, and fat faces. Direct flash makes your face look flat and unappealing, and skin tones washed out. Bright direct sunlight casts sharp unattractive shadows. If you want to know what I mean by wide angle distortion on faces, take look at these: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=wide+angle+distortion&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1418&bih=749&tbm=isch&tbnid=SRYyi1yZ5DDCNM:&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/ihennigs/4494894263/&docid=Wveb2dy1ktaOTM&w=333&h=500&ei=3mstTuDTFdH3sga6-NH3Dw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=1194&vpy=250&dur=147&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=140&ty=122&page=1&tbnh=139&tbnw=94&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:20,s:0 http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=wide+angle+distortion&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1418&bih=749&tbm=isch&tbnid=5iV5ahrj5WZhyM:&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/joao/2203862790/&docid=5W0rCg4uQ66C5M&w=460&h=500&ei=3mstTuDTFdH3sga6-NH3Dw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=446&page=2&tbnh=133&tbnw=122&start=28&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:22,s:28&tx=46&ty=66
