Mollie asked How can you make your washer run with the lid open?
My washer is a Kenmore 500 top loader and my friend as mde her version run with the lid open by using a magnet on this object in the back. Mine doesn't have this object, but I really need it to work with the lid open. Please Help ASAP!
And got the following answer:
I have a Kenmore top loader, but not the same model as yours. Mine has a switch which is depressed as the lid nears being closed. It is located at the back behind the lid when the lid is open. As the lid closes, a bump in the metal acts like a cam to depress the switch, which is actually a bump of plastic which you can not see until the lid is near to being closed. You ARE aware that this is safety issue, right? That by defeating the interlock, you put yourself at risk for injury? If you do this and later become injured, you will not be able to sue the manufacturer. That said, when the machine is running, slowly raise the lid and see what happens when it stops. I'll bet that you either hear or feel the switch click as it stops at some point. I have seen some models which use the backside of the lid hinge, so the interlock is completely enclosed by the sheet metal. Now I just have to ask what is probably a stupid question, why do you NEED to defeat the interlock anyway?
