whitewingloft asked Is it possible that a heating element on dryer is coming on when dryer is not running?
When we plug frigidaire dryer in and it is in off position, we smell heating element heating up. We hear a humming and when you turn dryer on, it immediately kicks the breaker off. We turn dryer off and reset breaker and you smell it and hear humming. Any ideas? I'm sure the element is heating up. The top of the dryer warms up and it's the smell of the element. Could the timer switch be faulty? I'm an electrician but not an appliance man.
And got the following answer:
If the dryer is electric...you bet ! Some dryers only switch one side of the 220 volt heating element. Should the element break and then droop and touch the cabinet you will have 110 volts to that part of the element at all times. This probably wouldn't trip the breaker until you pushed the run button. The extra motor current would cause a trip. Good luck. The timer could also be at fault if points are stuck. Get a tech.
