Jacob Hoglund asked Will this processor work with the Radeon 6870?
I bought a standard, cheap desktop computer and im looking to upgrade it for gaming. I am putting in a power suppy (500-700w) and a Radeon 6870. (I am aware of the size of the card and I am also replacing the case) My current processor is an Intel dual core pentium, running at 3.00 Ghz. I was wondering if this processor can keep up with this graphics card? Or if i need to also replace my current CPU.
And got the following answer:
I have had for 3 years a custom built rig that has had a 650 watt psu, Pentium 4 Dual core HT 2.4 GHZ and PNY Nvidia Gforce 9800 extreme 512, and 4 gigs of ram. I was able to run almost everything on maximum that a threw at that rig. I assure you that you will be fine in your efforts to upgrade your current machine. Alot of times if you have a good amount of ram and video memory combined, you can run a lot more graphics intensive games/software than a lot of people think. Unless you are running a program that is extremely CPU intensive, you will be fine. If you want to be safe though, upgrade to a P4 quad, although I do not deem it necessary. Happy computing.
