I'm trying to get from saratoga to Middletown by by train but I can't find a train that goes that route. Any help?
And got the following answer:
There are no trains that go from Saratoga Springs to Middletown. Saratoga Springs is west of the Hudson River BUT as it gets to the Rensellaer station it crosses over to the east side of the Hudson and stays on that side into NYC. Middletown is west of the Hudson River. There is no cross-river rail service that in that area. The only rail service would involve at least 3 trains and a bit of going out of your way (coming all the way down to NYC, going into NJ and then going back north to Middletown, NY). Take Amtrak from Saratoga Springs to NY Penn Station. At NY Penn Station switch to NJ Transit (separate fare) -----take any NJ Bound NJ Transit train (NE Corridor, NJ Coast or MID Direct) to Secaucus Junction station. then go upstairs and then down to the lower platform for a Port Jervis line train to MIddletown. The Amtrak fare will vary depending on the time of day and the train. The NJ Transit fare from NY Penn to Middletown is $21.75. (NOTE: The Port Jervis service is a joint operated service between NJ Transit and Metro-North). Service to Middletown, NY is limited to a handful of trains per day. I have put a link to the timetable below: http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/upcoming/r0020.pdf [I also looked at Greyhound bus service from Saratoga Springs (from the Antrak station) but they don't seem to have any stops in Middletown NY. You might want to check with Greyhound - maybe they can get you close enough to take a taxi or have someone pick you up. http::/www.greyhound.com]
