Mad A asked Best Tattoo starter kit?
I'm learning how to tattoo. My friend who has been an artist for several years and works at a shop is planning on teaching me and I wanted to start practicing. I am very serious about learning and I want to know what basic equipment I should get. I've been looking at kits but I can't tell what is good or cheap. Should I buy a kit or the ink and machines seperately? Advice would be great please, professionals only. And no, I wont be tattooing other people or myself until I am qualified, so please no sass.
And got the following answer:
Your friend should have been able to help you with this...but I'm glad to advise you! 🙂 please don't get a "kit" they are never good. All made in china as cheap as can be. The inks that come with them can have horrid ingredients (including arsenic). If your friend works in a shop he/she should order your equipment from a reputable supplier like Eikon/Kingpin. All their supplies are good and trusted by the tattoo industry. My favorite brand of inks are Starbrite, they sterilize. As for machines, you just need something simple to start. Look at the kingpin/eikon websites and see what they offer. Get something cheap for now, and work your way up! As for other supplies, you will need a variety of tubes, needles, disposable barriers, power supply, clip cord, foot pedal, a&d ointment, etc. Sometimes these things are provided at a nice shop. Ask your friend what will be provided. And as for gettin a "jumpstart" on your training....you should wait. Until you have professional training of how to set your machine (and everything else!), its possible that all the "practicing" you do could develop bad habits. Its harder to break a bad habit than to learn it right the first time. To your abundance!
