I am needing help with choosing the best capacitor for a circuit I am building. The capacitor needs to have specs of: 8mfd 2kv @ around 35khz. Would oil filled be the best and more reliable for operation needing a constant steady supply of around 8kv and 20amps max load.

There are several ways to get 8 mfd at 2000 volts, but most of them will be poor at 35,000 hertz. mfd was a common abbreviation for micro farads, 70 years ago. Starting at 12 volts seems folly, unless the 20 amps is needed for only a few micro seconds per minute. The average input current will be about 800 times the average output current, which could be a huge bank of 12 volt batteries. Perhaps if you tell us what the use will be, we can help. If it is a free energy machine, a million inventors have tried and failed. A full wave bridge rectifier with a swinging choke will convert 35,000 hertz 6000 volts ac to about 6000 volts dc at about 50% power factor. You may need ten inverters with inputs in series to convert 6000 volts dc to 60 hertz ac. Perhaps someone can tell us how HVDC power lines are converted back to 60 hertz? Possibly solid state switches can be used to select about 270 consecutive positive half cycles of the 35,000 hertz with another set of solid state switches selecting about 270 consecutive half cycles which need to be delayed 8.3333 milliseconds to form the negative half cycle, of the 60 hertz. I'm not sure solid state switches are available that are efficient at 35,000 hertz. Neil
